The direct distance from the start, also called "as the crow flies"
* New Data Field for 2026!
The Data Field has been designed to calculate the direct, straight line distance, from the start. This is often referred to "as the crow flies".
The field uses your GPS location to determine how far you have travelled. This can be useful for navigation, or in ultra-endurance events, where the winner is the furthest from the start.
The distance information recorded in the Garmin FIT File will be captured in metres only.
The Data Field can be configured to:
- Display Units: Use your device units (default), Miles, KM or opposite.
- Distance Alert: Select what distance you would like to receive an alert. This is similar to the AutoLap watch feature on the display. However no lap is marked.
- Vibrate: Vibrate (default) the device when the distance reached.
- FIT Recording: Turn on or off the FIT recording of laps. This can save battery and save when using the Smart Recording device setting.
Alerts will need to be enabled on the watch activity, to become visible.

Please Note: The Data Field should only be used as a guide, and if the distance completed is critical to any event or competition, hSoftware is not responsible for any inaccuracy in the data.
